Foot massage

Foot massage (reflexology) is a form of treatment from ancient medicine that is still practiced successfully today in modern society. Foot massage is very popular in China and other East Asian countries. Foot massage, or reflexology, was first described in a well-known medical book called "Huang Di Nei Jing" written in China about 2000 years ago. Even then, it was known that many different illnesses could be cured with reflexology.

The back through the foot

In reflexology, a pressure technique is used that acts on specific reflex zones on the feet, hand, or ear. These zones correspond to organs and body parts elsewhere in the body. The treatment is performed using a special technique that involves the thumbs, fingers, or what is known as a reflexology stick. A reflexologist can treat back pain, stomach problems, sleep difficulties, and other issues by pressing on the corresponding zones or points on the client's foot. The explanation for this is that of the twelve meridians which, according to acupuncture theory, connect various organs with one another, six such meridians pass through the foot.
Pain is the result of imbalance or blockage

The treatment increases circulation in the area, which reduces stress and tension in the body as a whole. The body achieves equilibrium and balance. Only when the body is in balance can it begin its own healing. So this is not symptom treatment in the usual sense; rather, the reflexologist sees the symptoms as the body's cry for help. The therapist is aware that what the body reflects, so to speak, from the inside out can also be treated from the outside in when working to restore the patient's balance.
How does foot massage work and what effect does it have?

Foot massage improves blood circulation - improved blood circulation facilitates the intake of nutrients and the removal of waste products.

During the physical stimulation of the feet, positive impulses are sent to the brain. This initiates processes in the body that can lead to self-healing.

The endocrine system is regulated, e.g. blood pressure, blood sugar, thyroid function, etc. are balanced.

By massaging zones connected to, for example, the spleen and tonsils in the upper part of the body, or the groin and lymph nodes in the lower part of the body, the body's immune system is strengthened, making the body more resistant to disease.

Not least, foot massage has a relaxing effect; one feels calm and warmth. Stress and anxiety are reduced.
